What to Consider When Buying Fashion Jewellery?

In my last workshop with students from a reputed fashion designing institute in Delhi, I answered questions about what kind of fashion jewellery to invest in. I’m going to share the same points with my readers that I shared with those students pursuing fashion designing courses.

I started off simple, by explaining that anyone buying fashion jewellery should keep in mind that the jewellery they buy should be simple and versatile, while being stylish. Ensure you buy them in different colours that cover all-year-around occasions and major daily activities. Focus on colours such as silver, gold along with clear, white, black and browns. As a bonus, I told them about the classic pearl necklace, which is a must-have in every fashion enthusiast’s wardrobe, as it goes with your outfit from day to evening, and is versatile enough to work with various fashion looks.

Some of the students though, asked for more detail, being post graduates pursuing MBA in fashion designing at top fashion designing colleges in Delhi. Thus, I outlined some of the fashion jewellery essentials that every fashionista must have in her drawer. These include:

  • Diamond Stud Earrings
  • Pearl Stud Earrings
  • Hoop Earrings
  • Fun, versatile casual earrings
  • Dressy Dangle Earrings
  • Pearl Necklace
  • Diamond Pendant Necklace
  • Versatile Statement Necklace
  • Simple Chain Bracelet
  • Metal Wrist Watch
  • Cocktail Ring

Remember that this is the bare minimum list, and your personal style may differ from this. If you want to look for your personal style, you must consider two things.

  1. Which jewellery complements your face,
  2. And which jewellery complements your body figure and size.

Although, the ones mentioned above will keep you covered on all those inevitable occasions that we all have to face throughout our lives, from wedding parties to your family gatherings.

If you’re looking for short term fashion designing courses in Delhi, there are various institutes that offer such courses. I would recommend going through their course curriculum before deciding which one to enroll in.

3 Basic Style Tips for Plus-Size Gals

Introduction

Fashion keeps evolving with time, and in the modern age, curves are considered hot! But, you need to make sure you look curvalicious and not flabby. This means avoiding anything that makes you look bulky and rather focus on smoothing out your lumps and bumps! When I last held a workshop at a leading fashion designing institute in Delhi, a lot of students pursuing various fashion designing courses like a B.Sc. or diploma in fashion designing asked me for some style tips for plus-size women. Today I’ll share the same tips with my readers, so they too, can rock those curves easily!

The 3 Golden Tips For Plus-Size Gals

  1. Ensure proper fit. I know how tempting it is to hide your body in layers and oversized clothes, but layers only make you look bigger. Great fit ensures nothing looks out of shape. The bra is especially important here. It has to fit to keep your bust up and eliminate unevenness in your silhouette that will only distract the onlooker’s eye.

  2. Get the body scale right. Scaling prints and accessories with your size makes sure you won't look bigger in comparison.

  3. Strategically work with prints, shapes and details to make the eye go up and down, and not side to side. Vertical details are your best friends.

If you’re interested in fashion design or fashion technology courses, and see yourself as a fashion designer in the near future, there are some great fashion designing colleges in Delhi where you can enrol. There are even short term fashion designing courses in Delhi, which only last 3-6 months.

Why Developing Personal Fashion Style Is Essential

Finding your personal fashion style is all about knowing yourself. Being connected with your true self is very important in fashion, and builds up immense confidence. This is why any student pursuing a fashion designing course, be it a diploma in fashion designing or even a MBA in fashion designing is encouraged to develop their own fashion style.

Why Is It Important?

There are various reasons to develop your own personal style, but mainly, like everything in fashion, it’s about looking good and feeling good about yourself. Creating your unique style helps you achieve a sense of confidence and comfort in how you put together an outfit. This sets you apart from the rest, gives you individuality. You’re no longer a part of those awkward-looking fashion victims you see out there on the street and in the cookie-cutter media.

It takes a lot of trial and error to find your personal clothing style, so don't worry about making mistakes along the way. In fact, developing your personal fashion style is a journey not a destination. Experimenting and just having fun help you get to know yourself better.

When you stray away from your natural clothing personality you may feel uncomfortable even if the clothes look good aesthetically. People may comment on how your clothes look great but it doesn't necessarily mean that the garments look good on you. This discomfort often shows and will lead to an unflattering fashion victim-like or "lost" fashionista (or fashionisto) look. But when you stay with your true clothing personality you'll naturally feel good. You're letting yourself shine.
